A new platform for entrepreneurial voices
New Community Transformation Fund (NCTF) has launched Capital for Change, a new podcast series designed to share insights, stories, and perspectives from Michigan’s entrepreneurial and early-stage investment community.
The monthly series features conversations with fund managers, investors, startup founders, and business leaders exploring the opportunities and challenges shaping Michigan’s economy.
The first three episodes are now available on iHeartMedia and other major streaming platforms.
Sharing the stories behind the mission
The debut episode features NCTF Co-Founders Birgit Klohs and Skot Welch, who discuss the fund’s origins and its mission to expand access to capital for historically underserved entrepreneurs and business owners of color.
“Our goal with this podcast series is to share our story more broadly across the state and encourage greater investment in businesses owned and operated by people of color,” said Klohs.
Building opportunity across Michigan
Founded in 2020, NCTF was created to address funding gaps facing entrepreneurs who have historically lacked access to investment capital. The organization raised $12 million for its first fund and has since invested in numerous startup companies across Michigan.
Earlier this year, NCTF announced the launch of Fund II, including an initial $5 million close and a commitment of up to $9.8 million in matching funds through the Michigan Economic Development Corporation’s Small Business Venture Program.

Hosted by award-winning broadcaster Phil Tower, Capital for Change is available on iHeartMedia, YouTube, Apple Podcasts, Spotify, and Amazon Music.
The series also highlights founders from NCTF portfolio companies, including Andrea “Dre” Wallace of Opnr and Hannah Awada of Hummus Goodness.
“These entrepreneurs have powerful stories to tell,” said Tower.
